Alpe d’Huez

Alpe d'Huez | Small Groups Resorts

Located in the Grandes Rousses Massif, Alpe d’Huez is in many ways very similar to it’s neighbour Les Deux Alpes in terms of access to an enormous amount of high altitude mixed ability terrain and lively après and nightlife scene.  Like L2A also included in the standard ADH ski pass is a free day over in L2A and Serre Chevalier.

However ADH does have its very own draws, loved by the French for its breath taking scenery and with an alleged 360 days of sunshine per year it is a stunning place to spend a week.  ADH boasts 249km of pisted terrain – just 50km less than Val d’Isere and Tignes put together.  Unlike L2A the pistes are alot more suited to intermediate skiers and boarders and are well serviced by modern lifts.  However, for those with thighs of steel, looking for some serious fact based bragging rights tackling the mighty Sarenne is a must.  With a vertical drop of 2200m and at 16km it’s the longest run in the Alpes – Oh and did we mention it’s black all the way.

The towns pyramid shape is a slight hindrance and can sometimes mean long walks home, however our accommodation in the Bergers district is just 50m from the piste.  The après scene is lively and with entry in to both the swimming pool and ice rink included in your pass there is plenty to do even when the lifts close.
