The low down
In our eyes Risoul is the very definition of a hidden gem. Located in the Foret Blanche ski area, it not only gives you great views but with an elevation of 1850m (as high as Val d’Isere) combined with north-facing slopes you are guarantee fantastic snow conditions from December until April. The town of Risoul is only a short walk away that will readily satisfy any of your shopping needs, with the Tourism office, cash machines and stores all readily accessible.
The beauty of being a quieter resort means you won’t be queuing for chair lifts and having to deal with the hustle and bustle at lunch time, giving you a perfect ski experience with some stunning views and in the mountain sunshine no wonder it has had some of the best feedback of any resort and deservedly so!! Risoul is not a well known resort and not the easiest place to get to but you won’t regret making the journey
From Risoul you can easily access the sister resort of Vars, opening up 180km of vast pisted runs, snow parks and powder awaiting to be carved – which offers something for everyone and reports of better powder than the Rockies! Between both resorts there is something for everyone, beginners to advanced, with easy access to side and backcountry rides for the more adventurous! There are several events and competitions hosted throughout the season so depending on time of year there are snow parks from beginner boxes to pipes and some big kickers.
The social side
Risoul has a heady set of bars all lined up next to each other, including Yeti bar; where you will spend most of your time at Apres before heading on to the Grotto until the early hours of the morning. With Apres located directly below our massive en-bloc accommodation and some of the cheapest prices to be found in the alps due to it’s ‘off the beaten track’ vibe- it’s the perfect base to host your trip. The bars may not be open until 5am but with the right group of friends you can definitely carry on the party (plus you want to be up early for that first lift!!). It may not be the biggest and loudest resort in the Alpes but you are guaranteed to have a great time and make some awesome memories.
Risoul – 2014
Would it suit you?
Being a slightly more intimate resort, it’s perfect for the smaller groups up to around 150 people. You can get a great sense of atmosphere and at the same time feel like you’re making a big impression! On top of this, if your crew is full of powder monkeys you won’t be short of back country to explore and tree runs to tear up! Being the modest size resort, we’ve found that smaller groups of friends (4 – 20) also love this place!
