Udpate on Snow Conditions

The Snow Conditions as we understand that you no doubt be fielding many questions from anxious trippers.

Snow…or its current absence is obviously the big talking point right now but we wanted to assure you that snow is forecast shortly and here at Wasteland HQ we’re beavering away behind the scenes putting together contingency plans and ensuring that we are in position to still deliver the best possible trip despite the rather unusual snow coverage.

Without staking our claim to being weather forecasters as well, we have been in constant contact with all relevant resorts and our many Alpine contacts in the hope that we will get the jump on what is happening or likely to happen. The general consensus is that snow is due later this week in many areas though how much remains to be seen. We are hopeful that in 9 days’ time, which is a very long time in weather terms, the snow will be falling and the slopes ready to welcome you!  We will continue to monitor the situation everyday here at Wasteland HQ until your departure.

In addition to being in constant contact with our resorts, we are also in contact with all suppliers, insurance companies, alternative activities in resort as well as tourist offices and fellow tour ops to ensure we are working together on anything we can to ensure the trips are as good as they possibly can be.  Please bear in mind, there are actually student groups travelling out for their trips in early December and how resorts deal with the situation will be more apparent for everyone but also be aware that all the resorts we feature at this time of year have fantastic snow making capabilities and it is completely within the resorts interest to ensure that they have runs open. In the competitive world of French ski resorts there is always a fight to be credible when snow conditions are poor, so the resorts will be doing everything they can to be able to say OPEN for business because it’s good for business.

The fact of the matter is that until a few days before your actual arrival day, we cannot make a call on anything as the weather is so unpredictable and a lot can happen in a week. Let’s hope that the weather continues to cool and snow makes it’s long awaited appearance but we are dealing with “Force Majeur” or to translate an “act of god” so everything at the moment is out of our hands.

Although this is an extremely odd situation at this time of year we have dealt with worse so should we need to inform you of any changes, we will have contingency plans in place and will discuss the options with you. As your tour operator we would respectfully ask you to bear with us while we continue to assess the position.

At the end of the day, you will go to the Alps and you will go to the ball and we promise that you will all have a fantastic time. We’re not in the habit of letting our clients down here at Wasteland so please be assured of our best intentions.

FAQ’s

Would it be possible to effect a full resort transfer?

We have been looking into alternative for the past few weeks and we have been speaking to suppliers and if we were to move you, we are wanting to use the same supplier so that no further costs are incurred. However, as with all tour operators in the same situation snow in all resorts and availability for large groups is proving a problem and as well as some suppliers being unable to show any flexibility as far as liability goes.

If not is there potential to bus people on a daily basis to and from other ski areas?

Of course, this is the type of contingency plan are currently putting in place. The good news is there is flexibility with the lift passes and we have the coaches in resort so if we can, we will.

Do Wasteland Ski have insurance to cover this kind of event?

We would like to make you aware that in most cases "Piste Closure" is not insured, unless you have taken out a GOLD policy and you are travelling with us after the 1st January. In light of the current poor snow conditions affecting the French Alps, we are recommending that you review your policy details and if necessary, seek additional cover through alternative insurers. Obviously this is a matter of personal choice as the policy that you have taken out with us is still effective cover for most items relating to a winters sports holidays, however, as a client of Wasteland Ski we are recommending that you review your position as soon as you can and make additional arrangements as you see necessary.

Mountain Meal - how will this work if there is no snow?

If the snow isn’t good enough we will have to cancel the meal and provide a full meal, in replacement we have back up plans for a resort meal.

Other activities to do in resort?

This is what we have been talking about for the last few weeks and we already have been speaking to the relevant suppliers. Most resorts have cinemas, bowling, ice rinks etc.

No snow guarantee - does this apply on the lift pass front? - if so what is the value per person of the lift-pass when refunded?

We will forward you the lift pass office policy by the end of this week, as they are reviewing it at present.

What is the policy if people cancel their booking - are they entitled to any refund?

Full T and C’s apply;

42 Days or more – loss of £100 deposit

42 Days to 14 Days – loss of 60% of total trip cost

Less than 14 Days – loss of 100% of total trip cost
