Resort Info
Kitzbuhel is as famous for its low altitude as it is for its most difficult downhill run. The resort lies at only 760m, however, do not let this deter you from skiing here. The resort goes as high as 2000m and is equipped with vast snowmaking facilities making the ski season here longer. The town is beautiful and the scenery spectacular making this Austrian resort hugely popular. The resort offers 170km of runs including the famous Streif (the downhill run). The Hanhnenkamm gondola remains the only lift that can transport you from the main village to the ski area but once here there is much to explore. The Steinbergkogel side offers some challenging black runs and provides a gate-way to some impressive off-piste runs. The ski area at the back of Kitzbuhel all the way up to the Pass Thurn is perfect for intermediate skiers with some great reds and blues to choose from and some incredible scenery.
There are so many good bars to hit after the chair lifts close, these include Prax Keller Bar, Mockingstube Bar and if you want slightly livelier ones try the Londoner and Stamperl – these become frequented by expert skiers when there is a big event on. Jimmy's has an excellent but dangerous cocktail list to work your way through. There are three night clubs in Kitzbuhel, these are Club Take 5, The Olympia and The Royal all of which are great fun and stay open till dawn so you can literally party your night away. Make sure you try some of the local Austrian drinks whilst you are there like Flugel (Red bull and Red Vodka) as these are bound to make your night that little bit more interesting.
